Love living in Lauttasaari

Recently Jonathan and I moved to a new appartement. The new place is still in Helsinki, but on the other side of the city. We live now on Lauttasaari, Drumsö which is a nice island with beautiful nature, but still really close to the city. A perfect place for running and enjoying the nature. But the best of all is that we now are really close to the kitesurfing beach. We are living within a stone’s throw from the sea and two different beaches, one of them where we use to kitesurf.

So lately I have been kitesurfing a lot. The southwest winds works for Lauttasaari, and that’s the wind we have had now for two weeks a row. Lycky me! Even better is that I work at home, so when I see the trees moving I just grab a few kites, the board a harness and walks the short distance to the beach, usally with the wetsuit already on. I really love this place! Another good thing with Lauttasaari is that we now also are closer to Hanko, and don’t have to drive through the whole city to get there.

Lauttasaari as a kitesurfing spot is not the best of spots, but it works. The wind can be a little bit gusty sometimes, but when it is good, it’s really good. Works pretty well, actually. We have this little island in the middle, and behind that there is always flat water, perfect for wakestyle! I love that. Sometimes in good winds in the afternoon it can get a little bit crowdy, but still it’s never so crowdy so you don’t find a spot for yourself. And I always try to get to the beach when people still are at work, then there is always plenty of space.
